Why I’m Going Back To Blogging Every Day
Since finishing at Makers Academy I haven’t been blogging. I’d committed to doing a blog a day for the length of the course, and after 12 weeks and 84 blog posts I decided to take a little break.
I’ve spent my time since freaking out a bit about tech tests, getting my first job offer and having time of my life at Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
I’ve missed the blogging though, and wanted to figure out why. So here are my thoughts on why its a good thing to do and why I’m drawn back towards it.
Structures My Thoughts
In order to write about a thing I have to decide how to turn it into a story of some sort. I need to model it in some structured way so its not just a bunch of information floating around my head. This was enormously helpful when I recently did an interview and ended up almost mentally reciting bits from various blog posts. The stories I wanted to tell were all pre-written ahead of time.
Helps Others
I’ve been fortunate that my posts have been tweeted and shared quite a bit by others. I’ve received some really lovely messages both online and in person about this blog and feels good that I may be helping others.
Improves My Writing
It seems people want to hire good writers. Writing helps me to practice communicating ideas and really that’s what its all about. It doesn’t matter how brilliant or ground-breaking your ideas are if you can’t explain to others they will only ever exist in your head.
Chronicles My Learning And Thought Process
Its very satisfying and useful to look back at previous assumptions or thoughts on things. Its good remembering the joy and misery I’m capable of feeling and that they were all transient. Also often times I look back at different points in my life and go “What the hell was I thinking?”. Now with this blog I can see exactly what I was thinking, which is nice.
There are probably lots more reasons regarding personal branding and getting yourself noticed and showing value and all sorts of other things but really if I think too much about that stuff it just paralyses me.
I’ll keep going as I am I think and see where I am in another 84 blog posts.
Also very quickly want to say thanks ever so much for reading. Its really gratifying to discover people are actually looking at this so just know I really do appreciate you taking time to read it.
